The Santé Initiative was founded by Adwoa Bekoe (née Nana Efa Attafua) on the eve of her 40th Birthday. A time where many would celebrate their lives and announce their arrival on the ‘Fourth Floor’, Nana Efa was more introspective and sought to answer the question, “How do I serve humanity with the gifts and talents that have been bestowed upon me?”
After many long talks with her friends and closest confidantes, she found the answer her heart was looking for and settled on “addressing women’s health issues” in her home country Ghana. This focused attempt at addressing women’s health disparities in Ghana, she named The Santé Initiative. Santé meaning ‘health’ in French and an eponym of the founder’s mother, Doris Akua Asantewaa Attafua.
Women and girls in Ghana lack access to basic healthcare, which has resulted in high rates of preventable diseases and maternal mortality. Many women and girls also face discrimination which further exacerbates their health problems. Nana Efa is determined to make a difference through The Santé Initiative to provide access to essential health services, education and resources to women and girls in Ghana.
The goal of The Santé Initiative is to empower women and girls in Ghana with the necessary tools to take control of their health and well-being through partnerships with local organizations and healthcare providers in Ghana. The Santé Initiative will embark on several projects that will support the needs and priorities of women and girls in Ghana.
